President Jacob Zuma says elders must teach the youth what it means to be South African, and to love and work for the country selflessly.
Zuma was speaking at the funeral service of ANC struggle veteran, Curtis Nkondo, held in Johannesburg today. He also says the youth must be taught non-racialism.
Zuma says xenophobic attitudes are unacceptable, and South Africans do not understand foreign nationals because of the legacy of apartheid.
Nkondo, a leader of the Free Mandela Campaign and activist in the United Democratic Front, died this week, at the age of 81.
