Cosatu shocked by Mary Metcalfe report
17 July 2012
The Congress of South African Trade Unions says they are shocked at the revelation, in the report by former Education Director General, Mary Metcalfe.
The report revealed that by the 27th of June 2012, the extended date for the delivery of textbooks to Limpopo public schools to comply with a court order, only 15% of books had been delivered.
This report is different to the one that was released earlier by the Department of Basic Education that claimed 98% of the books had been delivered by that date.
Patrick Craven the National Spokesperson for COSATU says that this shows clearly that government` claim is not correct.
Craven added that about 22% of schools are still without textbooks.
